Coromandel

For his sixth solo exhibition with International Art Centre Simon Williams has chosen to paint the Coromandel. This historic area takes its name from the 1820 visit of the good ship H.M.S. Coromandel which moored in the harbour in search of Kauri spars. The ship brought the town, and the whole Peninsula, its name from the Madras coast of India. Boom times came for Coromandel with the discovery of gold at Driving Creek in 1852. Many of the old buildings dating from these pioneering times remain, rich subject matter for painters and poets alike.

In this exhibition of over 35 exciting new oil paintings, Simon Williams captures the unique atmosphere of the Coromandel. An area that has long been a haven for artists and craftspeople, Coromandel is now one of the most popular holiday destinations in New Zealand. Relax, embrace and enjoy this oasis of tranquillity through the art of Simon Williams.
