About Frances van Dammen

Frances van Dammen grew up in Auckland, living in various towns throughout the North Island between 1985 and 2011. Much of her time was spent in Hamilton where she graduated from WINTEC with a Bachelor of Media Arts. Working from her Devonport Studio, Frances has exhibited in solo and group shows in Auckland and Hamilton .

The artist's unique, contemporary botanical works are created, for the most part, against a black background. Drawing upon sound visual knowledge of New Zealand's flora and native bush, Frances presents her subject with originality and refreshing modernity. Readily identifiable plants nestle against islands of gold leaf and touches of red. A finish of glass-coated resin amplifies the life and colours of each work.
