This painting was purchased by Mr C. G. Jordens 21 November 1959. It was originally purchased in 1889 by the artist Jordens from his teacher Petrus van der Velden for £400. From 1889-1958 the painting hung unframed in the studio of the Jordens family, Balistraat, 30 The Hague. It depicts the daughter of the painter, 'Riek' (Hendrika). The Jordens had some eleven paintings by this painter along with a large quantity of watercolours and drawings.
