Edward Bullmore returned to New Zealand after the acclaim of a highly creative decade, 1959-69, based in London. At the time, his work was unappreciated by his fellow New Zealanders. Tragically he died a decade later, aged only 45 years, leaving unresolved his place in New Zealand art. The transition from talented student to important mature artist has now been recognised as major works from his distinctive stylistic periods are celebrated. New Zealand art has come of age, and more importantly its patrons are better judges in the global rather than the parochial context. Erosion - From the Transition Series was painted in London
