Paul Hartigan Lithographic Monotypes

During 1989-1991 I was invited to Muka Studios in Auckland and asked to create a significant body of Hartigan monoprint works for exhibition. These lithographic prints were made by applying ink directly to the stone, the result being a maximum of only four impressions from any image made, often only two were possible. All the monoprints made were unique in their own right. Because of the printing method I employed, all were subtly different impressions of the initial image created. My inspiration for the images was 20th Century greats, Alexander Calder and Joan Miro.
