In this work the artist re-visits One Tree Hill, a landform which he first painted whilst studying at Elam School of Fine Art under Colin McCahon in 1969.

In Auckland Mat 2 we see One Tree Hill adopted as a motif in what is essentially a graphic arrangement inspired by a variety of indigenous visual influences such Persian rugs, tapa cloth, icons and Aboriginal dot paintings. Once again, Brown creates a work in his own highly recognisable style with Rangitoto, the harbour bridge, ponga ferns and suburban houses all feature.
