This work was painted whilst the artist was living in Napier, the Art Deco capital of New Zealand. Brown was particularly intrigued with the architecture of the Riverton Houses, seen in this work. A powerful central female cup-bearer, stylised tuis and other figures complete this pleasing tableaux.
