Northland's historic Cape Reinga lighthouse was built in 1941. It was manned during WWII and until 1987 when it became fully automated. Today it is the most visited and photographed of New Zealand's lighthouses. Timon Maxey captures his subject with clarity. The faceted upper-body of the lighthouse echoes the cubist resonance pleasingly present throughout the work. The sky is blue, the clouds white and the grass several shades of green. We the viewer, follow the wide path to the headland, overseeing the meeting of the Tasman Sea with the Pacific Ocean.
