About Vincenzo Calli

Vincenzo Calli is from Anghiari, in the Province of Arezzo, Tuscany. He graduated from the Institute of Art in Sansepolco and then attended the Academy of Fine Art in Florence.

Since 1974, Calli has participated in exhibitions throughout Europe, Canada and the United States. Calli's paintings are in public, private and museum collections in Italy and in the permanent collection of the Boca Raton Museum, Florida.

Calli explores ancient mysteries with figures that inhabit a world which lies beyond time, drenched in sun-soaked Mediterranean light. Gently rendered in a soft dappling of strokes, Calli's subjects are at once classical and modern - timeless.

As Michele Loffredo, Director of the National Art Museum of Arezzo, writes: You cannot deny that the spirit of a place has an irreplaceable part in the work of Calli … every man inherits not only their genes but also their environmental, artistic and cultural traditions.

Sansecpolcro was of course the birthplace of Piero della Francesca c.1415 -1492 and the influence of his work in the contemporary paintings of Vincenzo Calli is evident …. stillness speaks through time and brushstrokes.
