WOMAN IN RED SILK Pastel on black acid free board
For many years I have been interested in European Art of the late nineteenth century and especially the influence of Japanese Art on the Post Impressionists during the late 1880s. This work, with its dominating red colour and its simplification of form, reflects a little of that influence. I felt those qualities made the work powerful and rather than be seen as a seductive pose I wanted it express a self assuredness on the part of the life model.
