Jane Martin

Jane Martin is based on Auckland's North Shore. She loves bright colours and their ability to instantly lift the mood. Working in acrylics she combines abstract painting with figurative work. Jane enjoys creating colourful, contemporary interpretations of nostalgic '50s images. Having lived in the States for a number of years, Jane recently revisited the USA and came across a small collection of motel postcards. These inspired her to create this series of paintings. The '50s were an exuberant time, the post-war outlook was positive and paint colours were available in every hue. Jane's affectionate depictions of '50s snapshots in a brightly-hued palette hark back to simpler times.
