About Di Tocker
From her Cambridge studio in the central North Island of New Zealand, glass sculptor Di Tocker creates works of unique and extreme beauty. In 2002 Di graduated from Australia's Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology where she explored all aspects of glass-making. On her return to New Zealand Di chose to focus on glass casting.
Of her work the artist says: The process of casting glass requires handling heavy plaster moulds, high temperature kilns and diamond polishing. Eventually, after many methodical hours, shiny glorious objects emerge; weighty glass sculptures capturing the semi-permanent flow of melting lead crystal. There is a calming balance of chaos and control, parading under the exterior of my glass sculptures. I test and experiment with glass flow aiming to suspend colour mid-stream. Inspiration is found in the forms and atmospheres of nature … Inspired by her travels to Argentina's Perito Moreno Glacier, Di's well-received Fluid Series sees the exploration and expansion of the artist's mastery of scale, form and colour.
