From earliest times artists have been fascinated by the vital element of water. The figure of the water-bearer appears in the classical art of Greece and Rome signifying industry, abundance and beauty. Renaissance master Leonardo da Vinci spent a life- time drawing water in motion. The Impressionists, radically capturing the effects of light, gifted the world with paintings such as Renoir's Boating Party and Monet's Waterlillies.

New Zealander's have a great affinity with the ocean, rivers, lakes and beaches of their dual island nation. Surrounded by water, with the 10th longest coastline in the world, Aotearoa overflows with artistic subject matter. Aqua is a group exhibition by leading artist's both local and international distilling the beauty and drama of water.
