International Art Centre's March 25 Important, Early & Rare auction is at the printers and will be available in print and online on Wednesday 11 March.

It is a fine offering of works, diverse, modern, important, some exceptionally rare and some early topographical works relating to New Zealand's 19th century Heritage.

Highlights include Anzac legend Horace Moore Jones 'Man and his Donkey', together with other works of art from World War 1. A delightful Colin McCahon Urewera painting from 1969, recently returned from long term loan at the Sutor Gallery Nelson together with a classic McCahon flower painting and a rare 1940 sketch by the artist.

Two Charles F Goldie dominate the high end works of the sale - both beautifully executed Maori portraits with impeccable provenance.

A superb Toss Woollaston landscape also returned to its owner after long term loan at the Sutor Gallery should also spark interest.

The sale includes two of the most talked about Edward Bullmore paintings form the recent exhibition at Tauranga Art Gallery. They come complete with essays from the TAG former director, Penelope Jackson.

A favourite in the catalogue is Michael Smithers 1969 Boy and Dolphin, which features in several publications and held in the same collection since painted. This lot comes with several other Smither paintings from the same period.

A major Bill Hammond is catalogued together with a smaller work by the artist. It is the most significant Bill Hammond International Art Centre has seen under it's hammer. There are two Ralph Hotere and numerous other Contemporary New Zealand paintings as well. Watch out for a great work by Peter Stichbury.

Two rare works by Raymond McIntyre, several Peter McIntyre and works by Felix Kelly, John Weeks, Louise Henderson and others complete a fantastic offering of 20th Century moderns.

The most important work ever seen by Buck Nin - his 240cm x 360cm 'White Island' carries an estimate of $50,000 - 80,000.

There is so much more to this catalogue than listed here so be sure to keep an eye out for it on lion sometime 11 March or drop in and pick up the catalogue $20. ( Call 0800 800 322 if you would like a copy posted - Visa Mastercard)
