Eilleen Mayo's 'Sea Holly' makes $47,500 plus buyers premium Fri, 08 Aug 2014
Our 6 August auction saw a great result with some excellent prices achieved - a world record price achieved for Eileen Mayo $55,400 incl. premium ) with strong bidding across the board. Sea Holly was bought by the Ilene and Laurence Dakin Bequest as a gift to the Auckland Art Gallery.
A very good result overall with 70% sold on the night and that percentage changing dramatically post auction - A great clearance rate is always a good thing - 75% sold by value on the night. The catalogue included some rare and exciting offerings and whilst the absence of a top price Goldie or McCahon in this sale was evident, the bidding on some works was nothing short of spectacular.
