About Clare Barker

Clare Barker lives and works in Auckland. She is a second-generation enamelist and daughter of the artist, Mary Barker. Clare is a figurative painter and portraitist who attended the Browne School of Art studying under Matthew Browne, Anton Chapman and Zahran Southon.  Further studies were undertaken in Italy at the Florence Academy of Art and Scuola d'Arte Sacra. In Ravenna Clare attended the Mosaic Art School overseen by Luciana Notturni. Having studied Renaissance and Contemporary art history at Auckland University, Clare is currently pursuing post graduate studies at  Elam School of Fine Arts. Of her work she says:  Enamelling is a passion, for its family connections, its history, its alchemy and process and its enduring beauty and permanence amidst today's proliferation of digital imagery.
