The scene is of a small island that used to exist in the Taipo area of the New Territories - long since McIntrye painted it, probably in the 1950s, it was demolished into shore reclamation in the late 1980s. The Hong Kong Government provided residence of the Secretary of the New Territories which was sited on the island in the British Colonial administration, and it was known as "Island House"!
