Highlights for the November catalogue include three major works by New Zealand's pre-eminent Maori portrait painter, Charles F Goldie, both on the market after being held in a Private Collection since the 1950's and 1918, as does a well documented and finely provenanced drawing of Guide Sophia from a Rotorua Estate. The same Estate includes an exceptional pair of Charles Blomfield (1848-1926) pre-eruption paintings of the Pink and White Terraces at Rotomahana. Prominent works by Colin McCahon (1919-87) and Frances Hodgkins (1869-1947) also feature as well as an absolute classic large scale 1960's masterpiece by Michael Smither (b.1939) along with other works by the artist. A delightful original on canvas by Gordon Walters also features. An exceptional Anna Lois White work comes to market for the first time.
Three Pest Control Authenticated prints by Banksy are confirmed for the sale. Two works originally purchased from the Santa's Grotto exhibition art Dragon bar, London. The third, purchased directly from Banksy's Pow at the time, comes form a Private Collection in Auckland. A work by Damien Hirst is also catalogued. A rare South African painting by George Pemba is included.
A large scale topographical masterpiece by Nicholas Chevalier (1828-1902) will hang alongside works by Contemporary New Zealand greats - Gretchen Albrecht, Sandy Adsett, Shane Cotton, Peter Stichbury, Chris Heaphy, Karl Maughan, Jeffrey Harris, Michael Hight, Fiona Pardington Raymond Ching and others by Sir Peter Siddell, Allen Maddox, Michael Parekowhai, J S Parker, Ian Scott, Toss Woollaston, Trevor Moffitt, Pat Hanly, Max Gimblett, & a two major works by Len Castle.
