Nature rules supreme and splendidly in this remote region to the southwest of New Zealand's South Island. Named by the explorer, Patrick Caples in 1863 after his hometown of Hollyford in County Tipperary, Ireland. Today the area remains an unspoilt paradise. High rainfall ensures thriving fauna and birdlife. Here, a native Kea soars on green and crimson wings above the fast- flowing, crystal clear waters.
