Carlo Mirabasso crowns his large ceramic Notte e giorno with a golden sun radiating goodness, warmth and energy. The sun being the giver of life.

Below this is a frieze of fish swimming in a sea of gold above turquoise green waves indicating the port of Pizza in Tuscany.

The central band of narrative features the tall towers of San Gimignano - a medieval hill town encircled by 13th century walls, famous for its architecture and the preservation of about a dozen tower houses which Mirabasso paints.

The lower band/frieze features the rich fields from which tall Pini della Toscana (Tuscan Pines) grow. Golden sunflowers which are an annual harvest of that region also feature and are a familiar and well loved motif of this artist. Sunflowers, besides being beautiful have been harvested for generations for their oil. As you drive in Umbria or Tuscany at a certain time of the year, you will see the patchwork of colored fields enhancing your views. The yellow color becomes more intense as the flowers mature.

Mirabasso's artwork is peopled with interesting figures both male and female. The women have cloud-like halos of hair and the men often sport tall head-dresses.

Mirabasso introduces the heavenly realm through the angelic forms of his rainbow winged angels. As always he looks back to the days of the Italian Renaissance, and in this case the works of Fra Angelico .

The colourful bouncing ball is Mirabasso's signature symbol of joy and it is to be found in most of his works.
