About Jochen Schmidt
Born in Germany in 1947, Scmidt was trained as a draftsman after finishing school. In the 70's he studied Geography & German in Heidelberg and started a teaching career in 1978.
He spent the 80's in Kenya where he worked for a Kenyan vocational training organisation as an advisor and for some years at a private secondary school, running their art department. In between he worked for several years as a freelance artist, mostly painting and design. He painted on silk canvas and created wearable art. His work is strongly influenced by African nature and life, the bright and bold colours, the tropical flowers, even his name comes from the Kiswahili - Mashada, which means ?
