Paintings have a life of their own that derives from the artist's soul - Vincent van Gogh
This is certainly evident in the works of leading Australian impressionist, Kasey Sealy. A love of the Tuscan landscape sees the artist return yearly to teach and paint in the small hilltop village of Lucignano, close to the border between Siena and Arezzo, in the Val di Chiana
In this painting we venture beyond the town's medieval stone walls to stand in a field of tall, golden sunflowers, the symbolic flower of Tuscany. Girasole in Italian, literally means 'to turn to the sun'. The artist's familiarity with his subject, and friendship with a local farmer gave him entrée to the working farm pictured in this large-scale masterpiece.
