KING HENRY II (KING OF ENGLAND 1154-1189)

After a 13th century manuscript........ my icon shows the fiery character who ruled England for thirty five years. King Henry II is remembered for the martyrdom of his friend and ally, Thomas Beckett. Beckett was murdered in Christ Church Cathedral, Canterbury, by four of Henry's knights. The King was blamed for this, and as a result, did public penance for same.
