About Patricia Payne

Dunedin based artist Patricia Payne is one of those rare individuals doubly blessed with artistic and musical talents. Contracted by Covent Garden for over thirty years, Patricia has sung in almost every major European opera house including La Scala Milan, Metropolitan Opera New York, Paris, Barcelona, Bayreuth, Royal Opera House Covent Garden London, Chicago and Theatro Massimo, Palermo. She has sung regularly with 'the three tenors', Pavarotti, Domingo and Carreras.

The years spent in Europe provided a perfect opportunity for Patricia to study the art and medieval manuscripts which fascinated her. Through a friendship with the late John Harthan, Librarian of the Victoria and Albert Museum, and an authority on illuminated manuscripts, this interest ultimately laid the foundations for her artistic career.

Today, Patricia's meticulously created icon's and scenes of mediaeval life are complemented by a wide variety of subject matter. A love and knowledge of the natural world resulted in the popular series of New Zealand Whitebait paintings. Traditional renditions of the Brown and Rainbow Trout - so perfect for studies, hunting lodges and 'man caves' are commissioned and enjoyed worldwide. An artist of unlimited imagination creating original works, refreshing in their beauty. Just when we think we've 'seen it all' - the paintings of Patricia Payne provide a new perspective.
