About Patterson Parkin
A full time artist, Patterson Parkin has been exhibiting his paintings in New Zealand since 1978, after immigrating from Britain in 1974. His formative training in the study of art, specialising in drawing and painting was at the Warwick School of Art and later with the North East London Arts College where he studied Factionalism. Patterson continues with this style where diverse subject matter and medium, bright colours, solidly constructed abstract relief paintings of landscapes, nudes and musicians are well known. He has also made the transition into wall assemblage paintings which consist of shapes, covered in canvas, treated then painted with acrylic or oil paints.
He has been the recipient of numerous awards including the prestigious MacKenty Award for Fine Arts and has undertaken many commissions. Patterson has exhibited regularly throughout New Zealand in both solo and group shows and exhibited in France, England and Australia, with work held in many private collections in New Zealand, Australia, Japan, United Kingdom and the USA.
